JOB TITLE: Bid Manager

SALARY: £50,000 to £60,000

LOCATION: UK Wide

COMPANY BACKGROUND:

Our client is a leading nationwide integrated waste management business that provide collection, treatment, recycling and technologically-driven energy generation services and deliver sustainable waste management solutions.

JOB PURPOSE:

To manage and support fellow team members on tenders for new business; and identify and implement commercial opportunities to develop existing bids.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

· Project manage tenders for new business to include – Investigations on the ground to develop operational solution, pricing and modelling, commercial proposals, presentations for internal sign-off, liaison with partners/sub-contractors, writing method statements, identifying and exploiting colleagues’ expertise

· Prepare presentations to prospective clients

· Keep abreast of new technologies and innovations by actively researching products and establishing contacts throughout the industry

· To keep abreast of new legislative developments

· Develop contacts within the sector to keep informed of the status of current and future new business projects

· Attend Regional Meetings to keep up to date with existing contracts; identify development opportunities; and develop working relationships with Business Managers

· Provide development and contractual support to one Regional Manager as identified by the Head of New Business to ensure variation orders and service proposals follow the Company’s corporate approach and are signed-off as appropriate

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • Project management of a bid from inception to completion
  • Management of (or production of) cost model
  • Resource planning – vehicles, staff, productivities, benchmarks
  • Management of and production of method statements and associated submission requirements
  • Arranging and chairing internal approval meetings (all the way to Group Board)
  • Planning for dialogue and negotiation meetings

· Educated to degree level in a related environmental subject

· Strong Mathematics and English

· Member of affiliated industry body

· Understanding of the public sector procurement process

· Understanding of the commercial procurement process

· Demonstrable success in securing £1m+ contracts

· Bid management or Sales / business development

· Demonstrable success in securing sub £1m opportunities eg large regional contracts

· Wider IT knowledge in systems and processes

· Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office programs, and in particular Microsoft Word and Excel

· Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to deal with individuals at all levels (both within the organisation and outside)

· Ability to self-manage workload and work to strict deadlines

· Organised, structured with an ability to gather information from a variety of source

· Excellent written communication skills and a high level of numeracy skills

· Diligent with a good attention to detail

· Ability to work as part of a team and support on specific projects and tenders

· Ability to work occasional unsociable hours and be flexible to deadlines.

· Willingness to travel
