About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial success of fire protection and construction projects. This role involves managing cost control, contract administration, procurement, and financial reporting across a range of residential, public sector, and refurbishment projects.
You’ll work closely with project managers, site teams, clients, and suppliers to ensure projects are delivered on budget and in compliance with contractual obligations. The position offers a dynamic mix of office-based work and site visits, with opportunities for hybrid working.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing and maintaining project budgets, forecasts, and cost plans.
- Prepare valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts.
- Administer contracts (JCT, NEC), variations, and compensation events.
- Support procurement processes and subcontractor selection.
- Produce monthly commercial reports and cash flow forecasts.
- Identify and escalate commercial risks and opportunities.
- Attend site meetings and ensure commercial procedures are followed.
- Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.
- Ensure compliance with internal governance and relevant legislation.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
What You’ll Bring
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or related field.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in fire protection or construction projects.
- Proven track record in cost management and subcontractor coordination.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and estimating software (e.g., Candy, CostX, Bluebeam).
- Strong understanding of NEC and JCT contracts.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Collaborative and client-focused mindset.
Knowledge:
- Familiarity with passive fire protection systems and materials.
- Awareness of the Building Safety Act and Fire Safety Regulations.
- Understanding of contract law, procurement strategies, and risk management.
