The John Innes Centre is seeking to appoint a client-side Project Director to lead the phased delivery of the Next Generation Infrastructure project, which is part of a larger programme of change on the Norwich Research Park, Norwich.

The John Innes Centre (JIC) is an independent, international centre of excellence in plant science, genetics and microbiology, based at the renowned Norwich Research Park.  The realisation of the Next Generation Infrastructure project will see the creation of the largest net zero carbon laboratory in the UK for the JIC and The Sainsbury Laboratory, in conjunction with the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

New research and office buildings will sit alongside state-of-the-art horticulture facilities, technology platforms and glasshouses, accommodating two institutes, the JIC and The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL). Bringing these world-leading organisations together under one roof, accommodating increased staff numbers and their specialist research needs, to create a UK hub for plant and microbial science to address pressing global challenges.

The Project Director will take responsibility for the construction project workstream, to successfully guide a multidisciplinary team through the design, construction and commissioning stages of the project.  The role includes arranging the management of staff and equipment moves through the phases and enabling soft landings. Present standards of the zero-carbon agenda have been applied to all elements of the project in order to assess the embodied and operational carbon impacts.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leading complex, major construction projects valued in excess of £50m.  You will have demonstrable strategic programme management skills, with the ability to plan and allocate resources and put in place processes and structures that enable project delivery of exceptional quality both in terms of design, sustainability and governance.  Exceptional team leadership and stakeholder management skills are crucial to be a success in the role.  Prior experience of leading projects to deliver scientific research and academic facilities could be advantageous but is not essential.

The role offers a unique opportunity to lead an industry-leading project for a world-class and hugely important scientific research organisation.  The Candidate Brochure can be viewed at https://online.flippingbook.com/view/26678405/
