Founded in 1875, Haberdashers’ Girls and Boys Schools (Habs) are leading independent day schools for pupils aged 4 to 18. The schools are located on a shared campus in Elstree, providing the best of both worlds; a single-sex education in a co-educational environment. Habs, is a strong, happy and supportive community, committed to the pursuit of excellence in education.

Our attractive grounds extend to 100 acres of which 20 acres are playing surfaces. These allow for a full range of sports to be played with cricket as the principal sports at the Boys’ School and lacrosse at the Girls’ School.

The Role

Habs is seeking to appoint a Head of Grounds. The Head of Grounds will proactively manage and maintain all natural and artificial playing surfaces and the surrounding areas and will ensure the long-term planning of the grounds maintenance, upkeep and renovation are delivered to the highest standards and on time.
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Operations, you will be expected to build relationships with all the key stakeholders, in particular the sports department of the schools, as well as Grounds Management Association, other industry associations and external suppliers.

The successful applicant will have a proven track knowledge of working within a similar environment preferably within a school environment. You will have a good commercial awareness, along with a demonstrable understanding of the relevant health and safety and industry legislation. In addition, you will possess good communication skills with the ability to adapt and tailor your style accordingly.
