The Role: Experienced General Manager – Main Contractor

A well renowned main contractor in the Mission Critical space is expanding the business in Malaysia.

The Opportunity: The selected individual will be responsible to manage the construction coordination of all sites, ensuring realistic allocation of resources and the execution of all planned logistics for any number and category of construction projects to ensure that these projects are streamlined and milestones are achieved within time and budget.

Reporting the overall projects progress to MD/ED/COO/CEO
 
Job Responsibilities:
Operations –

  • Fully implementation of the Company policies/objectives and quality management system 
  • Operates as a critical member of the corporate team in the Construction Division’s strategic planning initiatives
  • To identify and potential business opportunity in the market

Project Management & Delivery –

  • To plan, organize, direct and supervise works construction projects and inspection operations within the engineering division 
  • Independently analyze and undertake the review and oversight of project performance versus project scheduling
  • Ensure the effective co-ordination of activities between trades and sub-contractors
  • Assists the pre-construction team in meetings with clients and sub-contractors as necessary     
  • Present project reports, including progress reports, project planning, and risk assessments (to identifying potential threats, challenges, and uncertainties that could affect project objectives, timelines & budgets), to Top Management and stakeholders.
  • Reviews on an on-going basis relevant project resources, project risks and related issues in accordance with the project plan and implement the appropriate mitigating measures as required.
  • Reviews Procurement activities as defined in the Procurement Plan and examines to ensure that procurement schedule will allow for achievement of project completion date.
  • Recommends and implement upon approval by the top management and any action as may be necessary to complete projects.
  • Liaises with HSE site project team and takes any necessary action to ensure HSE activities are aligned to targeted completion dates.
  • In collaboration with the Manager of Health, Safety and Environment, monitors and determines where HSE issues could impact on scheduled completion; takes action as may be necessary.   
  • Ensures approval and implementation of QA/QC Plan, focusing on construction scope, constructability issues and material deliveries, ensuring alignment with project scheduling requirements.
  • Holds regular meetings with sub-contractors and ensures the coordination of the various site activities
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for all projects.
  • Ensure that correct and safe construction practices are being used during construction.
  • Maintain a strong focus on client satisfaction and project delivery
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
  • Direct the construction management process form the pre-contract stage to post-contract completion
  • Coordinate Project Impact Mitigation process with Project Leads and others, as needed to ensure consistency approach.
  • Work with community relations to manage project-related interactions and communications
  • Any other duties assigned from time to time as requested by the /MD/ED/COO/CEO.

 
Requirements:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction/ project management or a related field. PMP certification or equivalent is a plus 
  • Minimum 15 years of experience of senior construction/project management experience in managing large scale Data Centers, Mission Critical sites and retail construction projects. Priority is given to Mission Critical experience projects. 
  • Site development and understanding the site approval/entitlement process is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction processes, contract management and safety regulations
  • Strong in writing letters on contractual and project operation matters.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with clients, contractors and team members.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Responsible, independent, good in contractual knowledge & implementation
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to manage large project teams
  • Computer literacy, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Project, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Teams)
  • Primavera, AutoCAD or equivalent, Project Planning Software.
  • Ability to travel as role requires monthly travel around Malaysia
  • Role can be based in Johore Bahru or Kuala Lumpur.
