One of the most exciting PIF projects is coming to London! On behalf of our client, MRG Global is undertaking a confidential search for a number of exceptional candidates to fill the position of Design Director. Our client will visit London to conduct in-person interviews, so this is your chance to get face to face with the hiring team from one of the projects everyone is talking about. 
 
Overview: 

Our client is an ambitious, PIF-backed project based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

They seek a highly skilled and experienced Design Director to manage and design by creative approach and aesthetic design for this trailblazing Giga Project. 

The Design Director will play a pivotal role in developing the projects architectural design style, leading, and managing the design process for various projects within the project’s development. Managing the architectural design consultants to deliver the architectural content and context. Leading and supervising the concept, preliminaries, and detailed design documentation. 

This position requires an individual who has a proven track record of strong design management over design teams, working on significant multibillion-dollar projects.  You will have delivered innovative design solutions, have exceptional leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of the complexities involved in large-scale entertainment and leisure projects. 

The successful incumbent will come from a Developer, Investor or Client-Side Institution

Responsibilities: 

 
As the Design Director, you will be responsible for: 

Design Leadership: Provide strategic direction and creative leadership in all aspects of design, including architecture, landscape design, interior design, and experiential design. Acting as a design ambassador for all assigned projects and properties by articulating, orchestrating, and realizing design goals of each project. Ability to solve design issues in a creative and pragmatic way by developing multiple designs options that meet the design approach and budget. 

Design Management: Oversee the design development process from concept to completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Manage internal collaborative design reviews. Direct the design development activities, providing strategic design leadership and tactical implementation, across residential, hospitality, leisure, tourism, sport, culture, and public facilities design workstreams. 

Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and project teams to translate project objectives into innovative and feasible design solutions. Contribute to the design and implementation of the projects strategic objectives and goals by providing specific Asset Design Management related inputs. 

Quality Assurance: Establish and implement robust quality assurance processes to maintain design integrity and consistency throughout all phases of development. 

Design Innovation: Foster a culture of design innovation and continuous improvement, leveraging emerging technologies and best practices to enhance the guest experience and drive business success. 

Team Development: Recruit, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of designers, architects, and creatives, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. 

Client Engagement: Act as a key liaison between leadership and external design partners, ensuring effective communication and alignment with project goals and objectives. 

Risk Management: Identify and mitigate design-related risks and challenges proactively, ensuring timely resolution and minimizing impact on project delivery. 

Budget Oversight: Work closely with the finance team to develop and manage project budgets, tracking expenses and resource allocation to optimize cost-effectiveness and value delivery. 

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local regulations, building codes, and industry standards, incorporating sustainable design principles and best practices into all projects 

Qualifications:  

  • The ideal candidate for the Design Director role possesses the following qualifications and attributes: 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Design, Urban Planning or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in architectural design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing design teams. 
  • Professional registration or accreditation with RIBA, Real Estate or Urban Design Institute. 
  • 8 – 12 years of experience in architectural design and project management, with a focus on large-scale entertainment, leisure, or hospitality projects. 
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex design projects from concept to completion, on time and within budget. 
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals. 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. 
  • In-depth knowledge of design principles, building codes, regulations, and standards applicable to the entertainment and leisure industry.
